Indian Bank Olympic Quiz 2012

Okay! This being my first post on this blog, I would like to introduce myself to you all! I am a class 12 student from India. So, what else? Well, theres nothing much to tell about me. Okay moving on to the topic. Indian Bank conducted an Olympics quiz on the closing day of the 30th Olympic games on 12th Aug this year. This was announced by our quiz in-charge 1 week before the quiz itself.
The rules were: 3 teams per school, 2 per team and thats all! So 3 teams, 6 students and no more. By the end of the day, we came up with 3 teams. Vishal and Susa, Deep(Deepak) and EV(Vignesh) and Nimmy(Nirmal Kaarthick) and I. The moment we registered, we knew we had to spend some time preparing for the quiz. Days passed. The quiz was on a Monday, and suddenly it was like the quiz was on the next day!.

It was the day before the quiz. A beautiful Sunday. I knew it was going to be a hard quiz. I had breakfast, took a month's newspaper, a notebook and started taking notes from the sports page of the newspapers. At first, I thought it would be an easy job. Then some time passed, I was still in my first paper, taking notes!
I then called Nimmy, we shared our parts. He would do research about the 2012 London games and I would do the history of the games. Time passed, and at the end of the day we were able to make up the loss of time. The next day was going to be our big day.

The Quiz was at 2pm at IMAGE auditorium, Chennai. We reached there by 1:30pm. We took our seats, and there were like 200 other teams! Then someone from the organizing committee announced that Sumanth(BSNL sports quiz guy) would be our Quiz Master. I was like SUMANTH aaaa!!!!!!!! So, the quiz started at 2pm sharp, the prelims went on well, we were quite confident. Vishal had done well and EV, ok. They said the results would be announced in some time and that they would be providing us refreshments at the canteen. We were hungry, but the stock got over before we could enter the canteen!:@ :/
We then went back to the audi, waited for the results. 6 teams would make it to the finals and 3 were announced. The top score was 15 and Nimmy and I got 10. Vishal got 9 and EV 8. So, 3 other teams had got 10 and one team was going to get eliminated in the tie-breaker! Sumanth asked us 2 questions. We answered one(thanks to Nimmy!). A team got both wrong. We got into the finals. We were going to quiz in front of 400 odd people! It felt great!

But the finals was a colossal  fail. We started of well but lost heavily in the buzzer round(s) :/  So, there was one round left. One team was at some 150 odd points, another 60 points and another at 10. The other 3 teams(including us) were at 25 points. 2 questions were left. It was a direct question to us. The question was "which is the only sport in the Olympic games where the player crosses the finishing line backwards?". Nimmy knew the answer for this one. But before he could answer, someone else from the audience shouted out the answer.
We were asked another question for which we didn't know the answer.
We would have got placed 3rd if we had answered that question. That ________ who answered the question! >:( We got placed 5th. We were given certificates and Abdul Kalam's 'Turning Points' for reaching the finals. THE END of the quiz.

We walked back to the nearby KFC. They didn't have veg food. We didn't have the money. We went to the Frankie shop opposite to KFC, had a frankie each, then a coke. Then we all started back to our homes. And this brings us to the end of my first blog post and a day that was filled with F.U.N! :P

The prize winners of the quiz.
